After more than 2 years since the launching of PLI , the International Degree Programme,
it's time to draw a balance and assess its impact
in the UC and brazilian students.
That was the goal of the workshop "The University of Coimbra and
the International Degree Programme - reflecting on the experience".
The auditorium of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences hosted the event
that joined over 60 representatives from more than 30 Brazilian universities and from the UC.
This meeting aims at first to welcome PLI Coordinators once more in the UC
allowing them to meet the PLI Coordinators of Coimbra
in order to review all aspects concerning the students' stay here.
Secondly, and this is very important for us,
is to make a more detailed assessment of the programme
and build bridges for the futures, based on the experience gathered so far.
For Brazilian universities, PLI is a mobility opportunity for Brazilian students
and also a way to study in Europe in a reputed quality institution.
Besides knowledge exchange and getting in touch with a new reality,
our students have the chance to strengthen their training with a different curriculum,
apart from the experience of living in Europe for some months.
We have to remember that many of the students who came here were leaving the country for the first time,
using their passport for the first time.
For them, without PLI they would never have the opportunity to experience a period
getting to know the University of Coimbra or other universities.
Outside Brazil, the UC is the university with the largest number of Brazilian students
and it's still of the destinations preferred by PLI students.
There's a network of communication between students to share what they're discovering here
, mostly about their training.
And the fact that they have a curriculum defined specially for them
is what makes a difference and makes this programme so famous.
In spite of extending the programme to other Portuguese universities and even to Spain,
Coimbra definitely remains the top destination, especially for our students,
thanks to the conditions offered and to the history of this collaboration.
The International Degree Programme is an initiative of CAPES,
on behalf of the Brazilian government, and the UC, with the support of the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities.
To promote projects for the enhancement of education and the quality of teacher training
and also the promotion of undergraduate student exchange are the major goals of this programme.
